PLANT NAME: Hebe ochracea ‘James Stirling’

 

PLANT DESCRIPTION:The ochre colour is best seen during the winter months and small white flowers appear in summer.

A whipcord Hebe grown for its conifer like foliage and miniature stature.

POSITION:Suitable for the front of the border, rock gardens and large troughs.

SOIL TYPE:any garden soil.

GARDEN CARE: Hebes have good all year round foliage colours and flower colours ranging from white to pink and lilac-mauve to blue. One of the few shrubs to have blue flowers.Hebe grow well in poor to moderately fertile soil in sun or partial shade and is tolerant of some pollution. Most Hebe’s are also salt tolerant and make good coastal plants.

Lightly trim after flowering to keep their shape. Watch for mildew and aphids.

Hebes requires little or no maintenance and will work well at the front or rear of a border or in a patio container. The foliage colouration gives it year round interest and the flowers attract butterflies.
